Bhogi is observed on Pushya Krishna Trayodashi mainly in Andhra Pradesh. Bhogi is celebrated on the first day of four days Sankranthi festival in Andhra Pradesh and preparation for Pongal in Tamil Nadu. Bhogi festival is celebrated to rid society of bad and evil. People in Andhra Pradesh Invite Lord lakshmi by drawing colorful Rangolies also called Sankranthi Muggulu in the Bogi or Bhogi festival.
All families gather for Pongal and celebrate it with great devotion and love. Bhogi is a festival for children. On Bhogi's day, all people wake up early in the morning and apply oil to their bodies and hair. They wash their bodies with bath powder and disguise themselves in new clothes.
Hogi usually falls on January 13 and so far Tamilians prepare a great bonfire which means the celebration of prosperity and the end of the winter season. Before Bhogi, people begin to clean their homes and make beautiful kolam designs on the veranda of their home. People worship God of the Sun and agricultural equipment that are used to cut the crop. Apart from that, there are many families who throw away their household items which means the end of the old things and the beginning of new things.
