Here’s some bitter news for foodies in city. For eating out with your families and friends, you will have to soon dig deep into your wallets with many restaurants deciding to jack up prices of food items. Reason: rise in the prices of onions, vegetables and other ingredients required for preparing the delicacies.Owners of hotel-cum-restaurants are mulling an increase the prices of delicacies by 10 per cent to cope up with the increasing financial burden.

At a meeting held recently, the Vijayawada Hotel Owners’ Association had a detailed discussion about the various issues confronting the industry in city.Following the rise in tariff of electricity charges and vegetables coupled with shortage of experienced staff in dealing with culinary and hospitality, the owners want to revise the tariff.

Association general secretary Muppa Venkateswara Rao said the new rates would come into vogue after conducting another meeting with managements, including owners of curry points. “We are paying Rs. 650 a day for a chef to prepare dosas and we are supplying it for Rs. 35 a plate. When we calculate the number of dosas sold during the day with expenses incurred on it, we are ending up in losses,” he explained.
